What is the ISAT?
The ISATs (Idaho Standards Achievement Tests) are computerized tests used to asses students' proficiency in reading, math, language and science in grades 2-10. The ISATs are given in the fall and spring of each year.
In the spring of 2007, we are using a new version of the ISAT for the first time. The new test has been developed by a company called Data Recognition Corporation (DRC). The DRC version includes several new tools for students to use during the test, including highlighting, striking out answers and skipping questions.
Some drawbacks of the new test include the lack of immediate results. Also, student growth cannot be accurately measured for the 2006-2007 school year since the fall 2006 test was from the previous vendor, Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). Although both tests report scores as a RIT score, differences in the format and tools used during the test make it difficult to accurately compare scores from the two versions.
Because student scores will continue to be reported as RIT scores, the tools and resources that we had from NWEA and that teachers had created based on the NWEA version of the ISAT can still be used.
